Even though we had a class on a weekend, it wasn't like a conventional class. We went to the Museo di Villa Borghese (a museum with a very nice garden, people with dogs, music, etc) where Ben did his presentation on Bernini's statues. Ben explained a lot about Bernini, who was a genius artist at a very young age. The museum houses some famous sculptures and paintins. Of which I liked:
Venus Victrix by Canova
Bernini's Pluto and Proserpina (my favorite)
Caravaggio's David with the head of Goliath
Bernini's Apollo and Daphne (another favorite)
I got back and took a quick nap to sleep off a headache, but my day didn't end there.
Hmm...well, no big firework show here today, but we still made the best of it with a group party near the Campo di'Fiori. Someone was kind enough to let us use their home that had a terrace overlooking the Campo. It was a potluck and we had some "American" burgers, hot dogs, a watermelon, and of course wine. It was funny to see that the only two places that had American flags were the Drunken Ship and Sloppy Sam's (aka THE American bars of Rome - owned by Americans). We ate, danced, and had fun. We also got to see some tap dancing from performers and an Indian musical performance out on the Campo. We ended off the night with some gelato. Happy July 4th!
